Coach Brian Carey has over 47 years experience coaching high school and college basketball. His teams have won numerous league championships, 3 NYS private school state championships and a NYS Federation Championship ranking #1 in the state. For 20 years, he directed LUHI summer programs and for 27 years has been and continues to own and direct The Shooter’s School and AP Hoops programs.

As a clinician Coach Carey offers coaches at every level the right “stuff” to make their practices more productive, more developmental, more competitive, upbeat and successful! Included are the key concepts in teaching offense and defense supported by the best drills for reinforcing those concepts and at the same time drilling individual and team skills. His “Coaching on the Run” formula is a “must have” for coaches with limited time and court space. NOTE: (Live demonstrations of all court drills)

ABOUT SHOOTER'S SCHOOL

The Shooter's School is an intensive offensive skills program where each player learns what it takes to be a "scorer." Players will learn the shooting techniques, the drills and the right mental approach that can help them become a more complete offensive player. The Shooter's School is dedicated to teaching the most important and fun part of every player's skill development - SHOOTING AND SCORING!

THE STAFF

Our staff has always demonstrated a true passion for the game. They spend the day instructing, encouraging, demonstrating and helping. They try to give each player the individual attention that leads to greater confidence in competitive environments. There is no better teaching staff to be found in ANY summer basketball school.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Morning Warmups and Ball Handling Skills
  • Competitive Station work - Highlight Station: Developing A Move
  • Shooting Stations - emphasis on a different shot every day.

PIECES OF ACTION FOR PLAYMAKERS

SUMMER CAMP WEEK 2

STATUS: Registration Open

DATES: JULY 16,17,18,19,20

TIME: 9am-3pm

 

AGE LEVELS: BOYS and GIRLS Grades 7-12th

*Experience on a school team or AAU team is a requirement.

ABOUT PIECES OF ACTION FOR PLAYMAKERS

Pieces of Action for Playmakers uses specific game like situations that require players to make quick and effective decisions. The major emphasis is on teaching players how to breakdown those situations and support decision making using; quick reads; an enhanced court vision (including both pinpoint and peripheral vision); a better understanding of timing and spacing concepts, player movements and positioning; and body language communication.

Players are first taught the key fundamentals of "chunking" information on specific "pieces of action." This is followed by practice reps and competitive drill work. The goal is when placed in a situation that is familiar, by repetition, the quickness of the response is increased and the effectiveness becomes a team advantage created by a "playmaker."

DAILY SCHEDULE

  • Doors open at 8:30 am for "early bird" warm up
  • Program begins at 9am
  • 9am-10:15am: Warm up and Drilling - individual skills that promote team concepts
  • 10:30am-12pm: Competitive Drill Work in isolated pieces of action - learning to "chunk"
  • 12pm-1pm: Lunch
  • 1pm-3pm: Controlled, competitive situational scrimmages
  • 3pm-3:30pm: Pickup

AP HOOPS - ADVANCED PLACEMENT BASKETBALL

SUMMER CAMP WEEK 3

STATUS: Registration Open

DATES: August 6,7,8,9,10

TIME: 9am-3pm

 

AGE LEVELS:

AP Hoops is a unique program especially suited for serious players with a real passion for basketball. For BOYS and GIRLS ENTERING GRADES 6 to 12 with AAU and School team experience.

NOTE:

Players entering 6th grade should have a note from a coach indicating they are ready for this type of program!

 

THE STAFF

AP Hoops is directed by coaches Kevin Foley and Brian Carey. Both coaches are on the floor at all times. They are assisted by an experienced, dedicated staff with expertise in the "whole-part-whole" teaching philosophy; Coaches who can explain how we're doing it and why it makes sense.
